Kanjin is a Japanese learning service created and operated by Kanjin LLC. Kanjin’s lessons, reviews, decks, pathways, study tools, meanings, readings, examples, and related learning content are prepared using Japanese language resources, manually written content, generated draft contexts, curated internal rules, and manual review.
Kanjin does not claim ownership over the Japanese language, public-domain language facts, common kanji meanings, readings, vocabulary, radicals, or other language information that exists independently of Kanjin.
1. Dictionary, Kanji, and Radical Resources
Kanjin uses, references, incorporates, compares against, or derives information from resources maintained by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, including:
- JMdict English common-word subset data;
- KANJIDIC2 kanji data;
- KRADFILE kanji decomposition data;
- associated documentation or related files where applicable.
These resources are maintained by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group and are made available under the EDRDG General Dictionary Licence Statement.

Kanjin will make reasonable efforts to maintain a procedure for updating EDRDG-derived data from current versions of the relevant files.
2. Example Sentence Resources
Kanjin uses, references, incorporates, adapts, compares against, or derives example sentence information from Tatoeba Japanese-English sentence data.
Tatoeba sentence data may be used as baked-in example sentences shown in Kanjin vocabulary detail pages. Kanjin does not call Tatoeba at runtime for core study flows.
Tatoeba sentence files are made available by Tatoeba under Creative Commons licenses, including CC BY 2.0 FR, with some sentence data also available under CC0 1.0.

3. Textbook-Aligned Decks
At launch, Kanjin supports textbook-aligned kanji decks for Genki 1, Genki 2, Quartet 1, and Quartet 2.
These decks are intended to help learners study kanji in an order that corresponds to those curricula. Unless expressly stated, Kanjin does not reproduce textbook lesson text, textbook example sentences, textbook translations, textbook exercises, textbook explanations, or other proprietary textbook content.
Textbook names are used only to describe compatibility, organization, or study alignment. Users are responsible for obtaining any textbooks or third-party learning materials they choose to use with Kanjin.
4. Manually Written, Generated, and Curated Content
Kanjin may include manually written contexts, generated draft contexts, manually curated meanings, manually curated reading priorities, internal gloss priority rules, radical-bleed filters, deck placement rules, vocabulary weighting rules, and other editorial decisions.
Generated draft content is reviewed and edited before publication to the best of Kanjin’s ability. Kanjin does not use AI-generated mnemonics or AI-generated explanations as final published learning content unless clearly stated.
5. Accuracy and Corrections
Kanjin works to provide accurate and useful Japanese learning content, but language-learning data may contain errors, omissions, inconsistencies, outdated information, disputed classifications, or choices that may not fit every learner.
If you notice an incorrect meaning, reading, example sentence, deck placement, radical relationship, vocabulary entry, or other content issue, you may report it through Kanjin’s Error Report feature, the Contact Us form on kanjincafe.com, or direct email to kanjincafe@gmail.com.
